New, more sensitive monoclonal based Allopregnanolone kit for AD research

Progesterone derived Allopregnanolone (ALLO) is an extensively studied neurosteroid that has been shown to be involved in neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis. It is also linked to neuroinflammatory processes through a beneficial action on pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Allopregnanolone detection kits based on polyclonal antibodies were already available through Arbor Assays (K044-H and K044-C), a specialist of immunassay kits, with a special focus on inflammation and reproduction targets.

A new Allopregnanolone EIA kit has just been released, based on a monoclonal antibody (K061-H1). In addition to the supply stability offered by the monoclonal antibodies, this new kit is more sensitive than the original one, it requires smaller sample volumes and provides increased signal. It also has a more favorable cross reactivity profile:

  • Compatible with Serum, Plasma, Dried Feces, Urine or TCM samples
  • Species independent
  • High Sensitivity – 129.7 pg/mL
  • Cross-reactivity tested against THDOC, Pregnanolone, Progesterone… (<0.08%)

Allopregnanolone is a neuroactive metabolite of Progesterone, which has also been demonstrated to have a beneficial effect on brain injury. Arbor Assays also offers a Progesterone Detection kit (K025-H1), among other reproduction related hormone detection assays (for Estradiol, PGFM, Testosterone…).

As a vet, I could not end this post without mentioning the extended use of this product line in veterinary sciences (!), including wildlife research. Monitoring stress hormone levels (cortisone, corticosterone and cortisol) can help determine the effect of change (human disturbance, new environment…) on an animal’s health and reproductive potential. The kits facilitate Non-Invasive Monitoring by use of samples such as saliva, urine and fecal extracts.

If you’re interested in this product range, let me know by leaving me a comment below. I’ll be happy to answer your comments or queries… and thrilled to discuss any wildlife research projects!

I take the opportunity of this post to let you know that there is currently an offer on the new Allopreganolone kit.
