Our History: The Tebubio Adventure

From a local Dutch company to a European leader in life sciences, discover the key milestones that have shaped the history and success of Tebubio.

“Ever since my parents began representing the Teer Bedrijf Uithoorn, our subsequently family-owned business has constantly grown and expanded to become an international company.

We strive to anticipate and respond to the developments in Life Sciences research, with the top quality service and products our customers expect from us.”

Donald van Dijk, CEO

1953-1970: Everything starts with Teer Bedrijf Uithoorn

The Dutch Teer Bedrijf of Uithoorn (Tebu) produced roof coverings and bitumen for road construction.

To address the French market, a commercial office, Tebu France, was opened. The office helped the customers with the purchase and use of the products.

1970-1980: From tar to biochemistry

Under the lead of a new Manager, C.Ch. van Dijk, the distribution of laboratory research biochemicals was added to the core business. The first supplier was SERVA from Heidelberg.

Over the years, Tebubio has brought access to many innovative companies such as Cedarlane, Genzyme, Miltenyi Biotec, Janssen Life Sciences or FMC-BioProducts to the French and European researchers.

1980–2005: Independence and on the way to become a European distributor

Ownership changed after a management buy-out by the van Dijk family.  In parallel, Tebu France expanded its distribution activities to European countries.

Today Tebubio (our current Company name) is located at 9 European sites, both local and global. The company obtained its first ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certifications in 2001 and has renewed them successfully ever since.

2005–2020: Combining Distribution and Laboratory Services

After its territory expansion, Tebubio opened a laboratory to add Laboratory Services (called Contract Research Services today) to its product portfolio. The initial offer featured molecular biology services and protein production.

2021–Today: Facilitating Life Sciences Research

To address the growing complexity of the ecosystem, Tebubio adapted its offer into Biological Solutions, Contract Research Services and Procurement Solutions spanning from catalog integration to compliance with the legal and ethical constraints.

The Contract Research Services has organized its activities around RNA-based Therapeutic Discovery, In Vitro Modeling, Biomarker Mapping, and Data Analysis.

The mRNA platform benefits from the support of the French government through the France 2030 plan.
