DC(8,9)PED is a biocompatible and fluorescent molecule composed of two quinoline derivatives and used as a diagnostic tool for cancer. Hydrogen atoms on the rings of the quinoline derivatives are replaced by deuterium atoms which gives it high resistance to light exposure and particle bombardment. It is also a biomimetic molcule because it has been shown to only bind to collagen and cancer cells.

DC8,9PC is a lipid molecule stable in mammalian cells and used for sample preparation for cell culture. It also forms stable complexes with liposomal formulations and used as an ingredient in x-ray diffraction data analysis. Analyses have also shown that it is able to inhibit proliferation of cancer cells in vitro.
