14-Pentadecenoic acid is a 15-carbon, long-chain fatty acid that contains an alkene functional group on the terminal carbon of its aliphatic tail. The oxidation pattern of this fatty acid resulting from growth of M. cerificans at the expense of the parent alkene has been reported.1 14-Pentadecenoic acid has been used in the fabrication of fibrous scaffold biomaterials for tissue engineering applications and for the construction of metallomesogenic side-chain polymers that coat capillary columns used in gas chromatography.

trans-10-Heptadecenoic acid is a trans-fatty acid. trans-10-Heptadecenoic acid synthesizes polyhydroxy-chain alkanoates under the action of 2, 4-dienyl-CoA reductase and Delta3, Delta2-enyl-CoA isomerase. In the absence of 2, 4-dienyl-CoA reductase, trans-10-Heptadecenoic acid is degraded by enyl-CoA hydratase II of the multifunctional enzyme (MFE). trans-10-Heptadecenoic acid leads to massive intracellular carbon outflow through reductase dependent and direct MFE dependent pathways.

trans-Petroselinic acid is the trans isomer of petroselinic acid and an isomer of oleic acid that has been found in cow, goat, and ewe milk fat as well as human breast milk. In HepG2 cells, trans-petroselinic acid (100 μM) increases cellular content of triacylglycerols and cholesterol esters and upregulates transcription of genes involved in fatty acid synthesis, including SREBP-1c, ACACA, FASN, and SCD1, and cholesterol synthesis, including HMGCR, HMGCS1, FDFT1, and SREBP-2.
